IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT MOUNJARO

PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT YOUR GP PRACTICE ABOUT THIS TREATMENT

We are aware of recent media coverage about the weight loss treatment Mounjaro.

This medication is being rolled out gradually across the NHS, initially to a small number of Practices. That means not everyone who may benefit will be able to get it at their registered Practice.

Currently, at the Practices who are able to prescribe it, it will only be offered to people with serious health risks linked to their weight and they MUST meet the following criteria, no exceptions:

1) Must have a BMI equal to or over 40

2) Must have 4 CONFIRMED DIAGNOSES out of 5 of the following health related problems

o Type 2 Diabetes

o Hypertension

o Dyslipidaemia

o Cardiovascular Disease

o Obstructive sleep apnoea

3) Patients must also take part in a structured support programme and wraparound care which includes:

lifestyle and behaviour change support / regular clinical reviews, monitoring and medication review / ongoing patient engagement with diet and activity plans

4) People who should NOT be prescribed it

o Anyone under the age of 18

o Are pregnant or breast feeding

o Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)

o Multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2)

o Hypersensitivity to Tirzepatide or any of its components

Please do not contact your GP practice about this treatment. If you are eligible, the NHS will contact you directly once your registered Practice is able to prescribe it.

We understand that it may feel frustrating or disappointing if you’re not eligible for Mounjaro, but please know that other help is available to you in other ways.
